nearly colorless ketchup

I know there are many colors of ketchup for kids these days, but why add to the stain factor problem? Many varieties of white tomatoes are available (see link) which are nearly colorless. I would like to see ketchup made from these. I, myself, have all too often stained clothing, tablecloths, and etc. with a drop of spilled ketchup.

I don’t think this is a recipe, as I have looked at other posts in the ketchup category. It is an idea to change the appearance of a certain food, and change its properties of staining. I’m sure some people will complain that it doesn’t look like ketchup, but neither does blue ketchup. If you haven’t seen that yet, I will post a link, also.

If you only ever wear ketchup coloured clothing, then the stains won't show... dress according to that which you are about to eat. +

       Very practical!

I was thinking for kids, they could possibly add an edible glitter.
xandram, Jun 20 2007

This would have saved my old futon.
wagster, Jun 20 2007

Yeah yeah - the old "ketchup on my futon" trick. At least, that's the line I use.
Me: Yes. Welcome, make yourself comfortable - I'm just going to get changed before we get down to business.
Gordon: Erm...<points at futon> is that a rotting corpse?
Me: No no no - Don't be silly! It's just a bit of ketchup!
Gordon: Oh, I see. Ketchup. In suspenders.
Me: <sharpens blunt instrument> Yep, ketchup.

Blue ketchup stains might have similar ramifications if, say, Fox Mulder comes round for tea one evening.

Which is why I wear multicolor tie-dye exclusively.

All I can say is that I would buy it [+]

It's a good idea, for sure, but it didn't work for Tab Clear...

Still, [+] because you have a viable marketing direction (ie stain avoidance).

I feel so silly inventing something *practical* and I love [xenzag]'s take on ketchup colored clothing, but I don't want to wear *invisible* clothes just yet...

Never again will I have to suffer the stares and ridicule of my upper class inlaws at Thanksgiving dinner as I salivatingly dip a forkfull of turkey into a puddle of this heavenly condiment.
Thank you xandram

would you be able to see it on the plate or know how much you dolloped onto your burger?
po, Jun 21 2007

yes [po] it cannot be really invisible, it would be a relatively clear type of substance...how do you describe ketchup anyway?
xandram, Jun 21 2007

       Kind of 'ketchuppy'.
theleopard, Jun 21 2007

ah hah, I was looking for user [ketchupybread] to show up here for an answer...thanks.

For the first four years of their lives, my kids couldn't have pizza or spaghetti unless they were already wearing red.

I think all we need to do is attach a small container of club soda to each and every ketchup bottle to assist in the removal of any stains. A little club soda gets out any stain, doesn't it? I don't remember how to remove a club soda stain...
Canuck, Jun 22 2007

Or maybe we should be using those white tomatoes to make spaghetti sauce--and unstainable pizza, too.
xandram, Jun 22 2007

Is club soda the same as tonic water? I've always wondered...

You are right about that [nuc]!
...and tonic water has quinine in it whereas club soda is just carbonated water.
xandram, Jun 22 2007

Almost anything will disguise a club soda stain. Ketchup's particularly good at it.
david_scothern, Jun 23 2007

If you think ketchup is made from tomatoes, you're mistaken. Well it sort of is.
shinobi, Jun 23 2007

Oh right, it's made from the worst tomatoes in the crop - rotten and rat-bitten. (I'd totally forgotten that unique scent that used to be in the air down the street from the Hunt's ketchup factory.) ...Which means if the same were done for the Klearchup, it wouldn't be very Klear. More beigey-brown most likely, or whatever color white tomatoes turn when they rot.
figmeant, Jun 24 2007

Well then, I guess I'll have to make my own, out of clean, fresh, white tomatoes and while I'm at it, I'll have some club soda with vodka, thank you.
xandram, Jun 24 2007

I had the strange notion that this would be some sort of chemical you put on eggs in the morning to get rid of bloodshot eyes from a hangover...
ye_river_xiv, Jun 24 2007

to heck with the eggs, just put a shot of Klearchup right into your eye...
xandram, Jun 24 2007

I rather have clear mustard, that stuff stains!
the great unknown, Jun 26 2007

A clear food in general project would be interesting. Have a competition to see how many foods could be re-created that appear relatively clear. Candy would be easiest. Steak might be challenging. [+]
