Prior to today, I had encountered the phrase "sugar pie" as a term of endearment, but had never known it to be anything else. A quick Googling revealed that there indeed is such a thing (link).
Nevertheless, I have here a proposal for a Sugar Pie recipe different enough from the others that perhaps
this Idea can escape an MFD. So, here goes....
For the crust of this pie, we want crystallized sugar. In school science class you may have encountered an experiment in which sugar water is allowed to evaporate, and a string suspended in the water becomes encrusted with interconnected sugar crystals.
We want to arrange things so that the whole pie pan inner surface becomes encrusted like that --not individual loose crystals, but a solid mass.
Then we fill the pie shell with cotton candy, otherwise known as "spun sugar". Some packing of the cotton candy may be appropriate to increase the mass of the Sugar Pie. You might consider using layers of different colors/flavors of cotton candy.
You may now serve it to anyone who dares desire to eat some of what is TRULY a Sugar Pie!

It might be easier to caramelize sugar in the pan. Or
maybe add a layer of caramelized sugar over the top
of the cotton candy as a top crust. |

Now we just need to figure out how to deep fry this
and we'll have a hit on our hands at the next state
fair. |

Save all the Agro. Fill the pie with loaf sugar (Sugar lumps) Mine own preference would be to cover with rum or whisky. Well. There is no law to say the sugar can't be liquid. Probably have to fight off the takers though. |

If you listen carefully, you can hear a tiny
pathetic crinkling sound. |

That was your pancreas imploding. |

Of course they would! EVERYONE loves cotton candy! |

My Gramma used to take the leftover bits of pastry from
making regular pies, flatten it out, add a bunch of brown
sugar and a dollop of butter then bake. The sugar/butter
mix would liquefy then harden as it cooled. Mmmmmm. |

I'm pretty sure it still qualifies as health food if your
Gramma gives it to you. |

Maybe not - this is more a design than a
recipe. Recipies tend to involve combining
several ingredients; this uses a single
material. |

I want to spin the cotton up from the crust so that it
looks like a fairy forest. Small edible bugs could be
released to roam through it. |

A recipe is a method of achieving a result. |

I would go for an icing sugar crust, cotton candy with sugar cube lumps, drizzled in caramel. |

I once made a dish very similar, and entered it into a baking competition. Very few people managed more than the tiniest mouthful... somehow I didn't win. |
