Simply put, the system is engaged as soon as the car is in park and keys are removed from the ignition. If the windshield "rain" sensor, that operates the Automatic Windshield Wipers, detects rain, then it raises the windows and/or closes the convertible top on the vehicle.

only time it wouldnt be useful if you ran off a the side of a bridge.. windows going up whilst you try and swim out of the windows wouldn't be pleasent |
