The companion idea naturally a pedal bin operated by a toilet chain. Have a croissant as compensation. |

//Seats shouldnt, though, to discourage standing.//
This bit I didn't get. Unless you are referring to the
tendency of people used to squat toilets to try to
stand with their feet on the rim of the bowl of a
regular sit toilet. (I'm not being funny here - this is
a big issue in some parts of the world where East
meets West. The signs posted to discourage this
behaviour, however, are quite amusing.) |

I photographed a few of these in Tokyo last year. |

In Malaysia they get quite a high rate of
foot/ankle/lower leg injuries from people who stand
with their feet on the rim of the bowl and then slip
in. |

Many RV toilets are pedal flush. It makes really good sense because they have a very low profile, thus requiring you to bend further than is comfortable, and closer to the functional aspect of the toilet than you would prefer. The mechanism in current toilets is an evolution from the wall mounted reservoir, which had a pull chain. Moving to a floor mounted pedal akin to the flush mechanism on an RV toilet could be retrofit easily enough. |

There are toilets in 4WDs in the US? Man, those traffic
jams must be bad. |

"Traffic jam". Never heard it called that before. Nothing a good
handful of prunes won't clear up though. |

Recreational Vehicle, mobile home, possible what you would refer to as a caravan. A toilet meant to be attached in a very direct way to the top of a black water tank and using a valve mechanism rather than a water trap. Most use a small quantity of water for rinsing. |
