Light it and get a short view of eternity and bliss

Add a slight mix of a legal, air-borne psychoactive substance to the wick and wax of a votive candle. The action time and trip time should both be quick and fast-acting, so that the devotee gets just a whiff of both the fumes and the afterworld. Ideally, the psychoactive substance will be powerful enough to induce a short, intense vision of the mystic.

There exists no legal, effective over-the-counter psychedelic
Voice, Jul 27 2013

Dextromethorphan is kind of a psychedelic. Tobacco can be a psychedelic. Hawaiian Baby Wood Rose is legal. Blue Star Morning Glory seeds. Nutmeg. Medical marijuana.

Bufo Alvarius is legal. You could put a live Buford Alvarius in each candle.

//There exists no legal, effective over-the-counter psychedelic// Anyone with access to an imaginative chemist can disprove that quite easily. There are several hundred thousand psychedelics; how many of them do you think are illegal?
MaxwellBuchanan, Jul 27 2013

And, incidentally, beeswax when burnt gives off staurophene and stauric acid, both of which are mildly psychedelic and, as far as I am aware, not specifically illegal.

       Frankincense is psychoactive as well.

given the broad wording of US drug laws all of them are strictly speaking illegal if sold for that purpose.

Is that anything like a bong? You could smoke golden top mushrooms.

I didn't say precursors for psychedelics. And if you're talking about extracting the effective ingredient so you can take more you're just cheating.
