An action-adventure-horror movie in which a group of 19-th century "alternative history" adventurers in the mould of Professor Challenger set out to locate and revive the terrible Elder Thing, Cthulhu, in his house in R'yleh (previously located deep underwater in the South Pacific) which has been brought into daylight by an opportune earthquake or volcano or something.

However, they then discover that to revive him they require prodigious amounts of electrical power, which they intend to generate by modifying the engines of their ship - but they need a vast amount of solid fuel to achieve this, so have to divert to fill their holds with supplies before they can begin.

Working title: "The Coal of Cthulhu" ...

       //Cthulhu, in his house in R'yleh// Or Rhyll, as we know it. In fact, it's noteworthy that all of Lovecraft's creatures and places are named in Welsh. 'Cthulhu', for instance, is Welsh for 'outdoor lavatory' (the prefix 'cthu-', for 'outdoor' having been a recent addition to the language). Contrast with "Lu- kthu" or 'lavatory inside' (also a recent addition).

       Lovecraft was a great writer, apart from when he was writing complete drivel, which was, oh, pretty much always. Perhaps his only redeeming feature is that he made B-movies look great.

       In the second movie of the series, it becomes apparent that their holds are too small to contain the vast quantity of coal required in order to generate sufficient power for their scheme. The title for this episode? The Coaler Out of Space!

       Have a weed-encrusted slime-dripping bun, with tentacles, to suck your soul* away.

       Now you say it, it's all so obvious ...

       *if any.

       <Aside>

       To use precise maritime terminology, it should be "The Collier Out Of Space", so if you want to retrospectively correct it we will delete this anno and add another helping of slime, dripping green weed, and eldritch evil to your betentacled croissant ...

       Both are correct. But I'll happily take all the tentacular caresses you care to hand out! ;)
DrBob, Dec 21 2019

       Surely not. "Collier" would be "more like a sheepdog".
MaxwellBuchanan, Dec 21 2019

       It would, but that isn't relevant - firedogs are only used for burning wood in an open hearth...

       The Cthulhu universe is not as scary as it used to be. I recently met one of the Younger Things by the name of Kthxbai, and they were quite charming - though they didn't stay long.
