When I take my socks off they get turned inside out. Then I have to turn them rightside in before washing or wearing. It's a task that takes up an inordinate amount of my time.
Wouldn't it be great to have a pair of socks that looked and felt exactly the same regardless of being inside out or
rightside out?

I've got a pair of Nike shorts that are reversible. Nice little stitching work they've done on them to make sure they feel the same inside out. This can be done because it's actually two pairs sewn together at the bottom. |

...probably wouldn't want to do this with socks. Two pairs would get awfully sweaty. I think the problem is to get rid of the stitching altogether. Most likely this would pump up the manufacturing costs -- it seems pretty simple the way they just sew the toes together at the end. |

The photo-fit of PeterSealy is becoming more bizarre with every passing day. I've got a very Gumbyish picture in my head right now.
I've accidentally worn a sock the wrong way out on occasion and I can't say that I noticed too much difference in the feel of them. Are socks manufactured in a different way in the States? |

DrBob: Depends on the socks. I wear tube/sport socks because they're more comfortable than the black 'goes with a suit' type socks, and there is a large difference between the inside and outside on those. The inside is reminiscent of terry-cloth, with lots of little loops, while the outside is ribbed cotton. They do feel different... |

Thanks for the explanation StarChaser. I've got to say that socks are a major pre-occupation for me. SockShop was my supplier of choice until recently, but the local branch closed. So my quest to find a shop that sells interesting socks (by which I mean 'very colourful') continues to this very day. |

[DrBob] I bought some nice socks recently in London from a shop called 'T.M.Lewin' - all one colour, with a contrasting toe, heel and stripe around the top. I got black/red, and blue/pink. Highly recommended.
Boden do nice socks too. See link. |

Nice link hippo. I've always considered you a man of taste and style. I was obviously mistaken <joke>.
I'm massively impressed that Boden describe their 'standard' socks as 'boring'. Integrity *and* colourful socks. What more can you ask for? |
|
|
I should add that I don't have any Boden socks myself
(boring or otherwise). I've merely admired them from afar
in the catalogues they send me. If you get some perhaps
you could report back with your findings? |
