An excelent idea, we could use a thin sheet of gold so it would be flexible and conform itself to the shape of ones cranium.Then you could stop for a shoe shine and get you hat polished. Stand clear of the power line thou, and stay indoors during lightning storms. |

Probably too heavy and too soft (softer than lead when pure) for millinery applications. To answer eagle's question, gold has a specific gravity of 19-point-something, which means it's about 20 times heavier than ABS hardhat plastic. Gold leaf, though, can be applied to just about anything, and stops those annoying CIA mind-control rays just as well as aluminum foil. A better use for solid gold: frying pans. Nothing sticks because the metal is highly inert, and there's few things that conduct heat better. |

Julia Childs did a show with a solid gold frypan once...I forget what the reason was, I think a science show sponsored it...said it was the best cooking utensil she'd ever used. |

Presumably a frying-pan with gold
electroplating would work nearly as well,
and be much cheaper? They plate
coffee filters (I've used the same one for
7+ years now), so I wonder, actually,
why this isn't done. |

Wouldn't necessarily be as good. The reason for plating the filters is that gold does not tarnish and is very inert, so it doesn't pick up smells or whatever. You'd have to have more solidity to a frypan for it to be worth the trouble. Maybe something like high-end cookware now...has a big heavy lump of copper in the base, surrounded by aluminum <Copper is reactive and will be eaten by things like tomato sauce, so you need to protect it>. The copper gives better heat transfer. |

How about a hat woven out of thin gold wires, or gold-plated wires? Would the spaces between the weft decrease the protective value of the anti-mind-control metal? |

If I were practicing mind control on someone with a gold hat, the first thing I'd control his/her mind to think is to send me the gold hat. So if it works, you better not take it off. |
