Do you hate waiting for buses? Have you ever set off from one
bus stop to walk to the next one along when at the mid-way
point the bus passes you by? Well imagine if you could pay for
a special bus stopper hat which you can put on and is easily
recognised by bus drivers. Then all you have to
do is start
walking towards your destination and any bus which passes
you is bound over to stop right there + pick you up.

In UK it's illegal for a bus to pick up or set down elsewhere than at designated bus stops (at least it was when I was a bus driver - there are hailable buses now, but I think they need to be specially licenced.) |

In my (extensive) experience I've come across a number of drivers (not all of them, I hasten to add for angel's benefit) who had difficulty noticing the bloody great bus-stop by the side of the road. They'd have no chance of spotting your hat, ease, unless you were walking down the middle of the road.
I would suggest that an elephant gun would be a better alternative. Bring down that speeding bus and display it, stuffed, over your fireplace.

Well I know the whole thing about the UK and designated stops as pointed out by angel.
I think thought there is another flaw to your plan which could be solved by a modification. As there are so many buses that will pass you and not all will go to your destination you have supplied with your hat a set of destination signs or bus numbers. |

The numbers-on-the-hat thing is baked, even if the hat isn't. There's a blind guy in my town who can hear when a bus is coming to the stop, and he holds up a board with the number of the bus that he wants. If the bus is on a different route, it passes him by, otherwise it stops for him. The guy built this board himself; it has a light bulb inside so the drivers can see it at night. |

in toronto, bus drivers will pick you up or drop you off anywhere along the route that you desire, as long as you're a woman and it's after dark. it's a safety thing. |

Mihali: Hm...move to Toronto, get a sex change, stop rotation of earth. I think it's a bit drastic for a bus ride... |

Mmm...giant stop sign mounted on hat...neck problems. Indeed. |
