My fifteen month old daughter spends hours each day scheming up ways to steal the TV remote control from me. She has no interest in the television, and no desire to change the channel. It's simply that when she sees me using the remote, she wants to do the same. Basically, she wants to be me. And who
can blame her for that?
I'm usually left with two options: either watch the random shopping channel my daughter has inadvertently tuned to, or sit on the remote in the hope that she forgets about it, and then whip it out surreptitiously to change the channel as soon as she's looking elsewhere.
Neither option is great. The better option would be to have a four digit pin number built into the remote. Press the numbers in sequence, and the remote control becomes disabled, and may be handed to my daughter so that she can happily chew it, fiddle with the buttons, or dunk it in coffee as she sees fit. Press the same numbers in sequence again, and the remote control unlocks and allows me to change channels.
Oh, and if you're thinking that I should be giving my beautiful daughter one hundred percent of my attention at all times rather than watching the snooker... you probably don't have kids.

Hey Fishy, I think this is a grand idea. I think it would be
funny to see the look on my husbands face when he picked
up the remote and nothing happened. (I mean after he has
tested the battery, etc. etc etc.). And then I would walk in
and with the flick of my wrist make it work like magic. I like
playing tricks like that on him. Mean streak in me, that's all. |
