thanks!
Yeah, yeah, "You get what you pay for" and all that. But still. | |
Thanks to everybody who reached out to the site's
management after we crashed. There was an embarrassing
upswell of "Can we help? Money? Food? Technical
expertise?" and a happy absence of death threats and
accusations of malfeasance.
I hadn't set up regular backups, and I really must.
(Got
preferences/recommendations for a destination?) Being stuck
for three months with a considerable chance of having to turn
around and tell a few hundred people that I Destroyed Your
Stuff is a position I don't want to be in ever again.
Also, giving posters a way of downloading their stuff as a
handy little archive seems like an obviously good idea.
Whew.

Wait a moment... you mean you didn't get ANY of the stuff we sent ? |

[+] This is spectacular! The lovely half a croissant :) Now would be
great if HB staff documents the procedure of resurrection so that it
doesn't become an issue ever again. |
Boffo has declared today a national holiday, and has given the
entire staff of Rentisham's the day off to celebrate. |
Oh, and to answer the questions that were left hanging on
various ideas several weeks ago: |
[8th] - yes, but with less cheese.
[nmrm] - they use a very fine wire and a gherkin.
[Ian Tindale] - [Ian Tindale]
[Skewed] - that's very kind; can you have it delivered?
[Beany] - possibly, but astatine is expensive
[DrBob] - because it disguises the flavour of the jam. |

The Bread God's are shining down on us all. (Thank you,
jutta, for all your hard work and time and effort.) |

yawns after 3 months long sleep...... did something happen while I was dreaming of flotillas of happy hamsters pontooning across lagoons of gently steaming custard? |
I'm going to go through and bun each and every idea
without
even reading it! |

perhaps we should have a party |
//perhaps we should have a party // Now there's a
thought. We'd inevitably be better than the Republicans. |
Ha. Oh yeah, I forgot, political outbursts/rants/snarky
remarks are ok here, actually encouraged. I agree, MB, we
should have our own party. I think there was an idea like
that in the past...I think...therefore I am... |
Wow, for some reason I just don't want to stop rambling on.
It's like the doors to hell have opened up and I'm ready to
jump in. |
// hadn't set up regular backups, and I really must.//
Nah! Live life on the edge. You know you want it!
;) |
To be fair, we'd also be way better than the Democrats. As
well as Labour and the Conservatives. |
Hooray!

Let's just hope that the sudden influx of written-yet-
unposted ideas doesn't overwhelm the server to the point of
another catastrophe. |
Thank you, jutta, for your work in fixing this and your work and patience in putting up with us lot over a very very long period of time. |
All Hail the mighty Jutta! She swam through the
flooded cave and brought us light and salvation.
We never abandoned hope that this day would
come. |
The party planks should include a ban on pants and
a priority on spelling and grammar rules. |
Thank you, [jutta], for over 19 years of unparalleled generosity. |
Great to see everything back and working! Thanks
Jutta! |
Fonts are still snafued, looks like. |
But how about doing the Patreon thing, maybe at
least pay for servers and backups and things? |
So yesterday, as usual since the Great Outrage of 2018 began (which I was sure was caused by Trump, El Niño, the Saudis, and/or Justin Bieber), I typed halfbakery.com into the search bar, expecting the usual 'can't find it, you must've put it somewhere' disclaimer, when aloofasudden, kaaZing! up it comes.
Took me a day to recover.
Nice to see you all here. |
and unlike Facebook, you can't like everyone's comment. hmm,
there's a thought. |
Well, I've not been here for years but the rebuild post
big crash has had me all curious to see you. |
<tongue in cheek>[marked-for-deletion] surely, we've
had thanks before ? </tic> |
Thanks for all your hard work [Jutta]. And it is also
our responsibility to keep our own stuff backed up. |
Oh [jutta] Sheer bliss and joy to be back here!
Thank you immensely and sending much love and
hugs your way. |

[+] small mini party in celebration of my favourite place
(and favourite people) on the internet. Thanks [jutta] and
everyone, for keeping it alive. |

not an autoboner to be seen. |
I've noticed just one missing page - the halfbakery.com/lr/ page |
Watching the vote total on this idea growing is an interesting insight into how
many people use the site. I wonder how high it'll get? |
hippo, thanks for pointing out the missing /lr support --
better now? |
<wonders if it would be churlish to point out that the 'search' function isn't working properly either> |
[jutta] - that's great (just makes it slightly easier to view HB content at work...) |
Uhhh...[hippo], you know that ain't allowed. HAHAHAHAHA |
Funnily enough, hitting the front page currently giving the
message: |
"/home/protected /halfbakery/etc/typography.p3
",
line 280 (from |
"/home/public/index.hb ", end of file: unknown
element <user> |
While, here on /lr everything is working just dandy! |
8th of 7, I fixed something about search a few days ago --
could you retry yours (if you still remember it), or just let
me know directly (at bakesperson@gmail.com) when
something breaks? Thanks! |
Hurrah!
Also, it should be noted that I've spent too much time
surfing reddit, as demonstrated by my wanting to
upvote comments that I like. |
// could you retry yours (if you still remember it) // |
We remember it ... we remember everything... |
And it's working OK now, thanx. |
It lives, now with an even bigger fondness. Thanks Jutta and helpers. |
