you can get tomato ketchup, brown sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper, honey, lemon juice, mayo, relish, mustard
but you cant get a pickled onion in a sachet.
why not? its an outrage. one purchases ones perfectly presented portion of cod and chips and then you rely on some (usually, not always it
has to be said) greasy haired chip shop proprietor to manhandle one or two pickled onions out of a mangy old jar that looks like it hasnt moved from the spot for fifty years.
to my mind, its perfectly feasible to create an irresistible looking little packet containing a drop or two of vinegar and one perfectly pre-pickled onion.

po, honey, I have never tasted a pickled onion. But I like my onions. I like them on my burgers, hotdogs, grilled with veggies, sauteed, etc. So I am sure that I would be willing to try a pickled onion, even if I don't take to them. What are they pickled with? |

I used to pickle my own, its very easy. usually they are very small onions and just left to steep for several weeks/months in vinegar and pickling spices. I found various recipes when I was searching. |

I'm sure this was at least partly baked in the 60s or 70s - you used to be able to buy small packets of Tuc-like cracker "sandwiches" with a sort of cheesy paste between them, and they came with a small foil packet containing a cocktail (silverskin) onion. Can't remember what they were called. Bun to a fellow pickle afficionado. [EDIT] Similar concept is those sour crunchy Japanese plums - can't remember what they're called, but they come in individual packets, IIRC |
