solve problems in adolescence by communicating moods

Hi, I am designing a device that helps adolescents between the age of 15 and 17 to communicate emotions to their parents. By a more clear way of communicating moods and emotions I aim for better understanding. For example. If I come home and display a tired mood, my mom should know that she shouldn't start by asking me to clean up my room.

I am now considering the appearance of this device. I was thinking about a watch with color compositions. Red means anger, Green happines and blue fatigue, with these variables its possible to compose one color. Maybe I'll integrate heartbeat/skin resistance/muscle tension for a better intuitive use, but entering variables yourself motivates self-reflection

So any ideas?

Willem, you treat this place like a hotel. Go tidy your room.

       Have you done your homework?

And what are those yellow patches on the carpet?

It should turn your whole skin this color, not just your watch, or how will anyone else notice it?

I like the idea of treating emotions like the primary colors... so "I'm Full" = happiness + fatigue = light blue; "Love" = anger + happiness = red + green = yellow; "Just got in a fistfight with my friend but won" = red+green+blue = white

       Is there a color for "I don't give a ****"?

You only need a two colour system for teenage boys as they have but two mindstates: "angry" and "wanking".
calum, Mar 08 2007

Actually, a blended colour combination approach could result in fashion conscious girls attempting to manipulate their moods in order to accessorise more devastatingly. This mood manipulation could be achieved by either mastery of the Self or by exposing onesself to a wide range of carefully targeted emotional pornography, which product would, if the watch manufacturers were savvy enough, be produced in-house, for a tidy profit.

       [calum] and "angrily wanking"

Heheh. For that, I suggest a houndstooth pattern.

so out with the hypercolor and in with the all new hornycolor t-shirt

// "Love" = anger + happiness// [phund], that is very odd.

The goal of my adolescence was to keep my parents in the dark as much as possible. [-]

You're of course going to have to invent a special whole body watch with the new "Black means utter despair" so that the goth and emo kids can join the bandwagon...

Whats wrong with the good old fashioned 'Binary Grunt System' of communication?

       (+) for the illustration.

//fashion conscious girls attempting to manipulate their moods//

Brilliant! So you make the colours that they'd all want to wear the ones associated with Happiness, contentedness and self esteem and the world will be a better place. Well, for the adolescent boys anyway.
