It is similar to the idea multlingual of network of friends but with a torsion (actually two torsions): the documents are the first passage by something like the babelfish, then offered until are corrected by the natural ones in a model of keen.com:
"if you help of others which you obtain more
appropriations thing of the type to obtain more assistance."
Of this way than you do not need to be bilingual to help. There could also is a system of estimate so that the better translators obtain more appropriations for their work.
The results would not be perfect, but improve that the babelfish...
the second torsion is: we could humor the francophones and the Yancophones alike.

You *do* need to be bilingual to do a proper translation. |
|
|
You don't need to be bilingual to create a piece of fiction that can be passed off as the translation; but if the final recipient is interested in the precise meaning of the original, as someone asking for a translation rather than a keyword summary ala babelfish presumably would be, smoothing by natives that are unaware of the original's meaning doesn't help. |

Jutta: I don't know if that's
entirely true. Some works can be
internally checked; humans can
apply "sensicality filters" that
Babelfish can't, even if they're
not familiar with the original
document. It may not be a perfect
translation, but it could be quite
a bit better than raw Babelfish
output. |

|
But it could also be quite a lot worse. It seems like the lost information would most often be irretrievable, and you would end up with a readable document which gave the impression of coherence without the original meaning (and perhaps with a very different one). That would be a lot worse than nonsense.— | Monkfish,

Can we get rid of the multiple
copies of this idea? We've all
seen Babelfish round-trip
mistranslations by now. |
