a dining table with a lip around the edge [as a pool table-but no green felt, maybe something more cleanable] to keep in spilt liquids, and pockets with plastic bags instead of nets to collect spillages.

Snooker table: 15 tomatoes, a lemon, a sprout, a meatball, a blueberry muffin, a spoonful of salmon mousse, a black olive and a meringue. Plus some breadsticks to help it all down.

PeterSealy: You're not being macabre enough. I found you the perfect table. It's worrying that I straight away knew what to search for (though in my defense I saw one in an art gallery at the weekend, cast by Rachel Whiteread).

Baked, sort of, on "The Beverly Hillbillies" (a 1960s U.S. sitcom). Upon the Clampett's introduction to the billiard table, they commenced to speculate as to what type of animal a "billiard" was, and how it would taste when it was served on the table. They reckoned the cue sticks were pot-passers. The white sphere was figgered to be a billiard egg.
