An elasticated device resembling a sweatband, worn around the head so that a cluster of low-profile surface mount white LEDs are positioned exactly over the location of the so-called "third eye", pretty much in the centre of your species' forehead. A simple digital watch/timer integrated into the headband
activates the LEDs at the pre-set time at which point they flash at a chosen frequency (we suggest 15 Hz).
The sleeper is quickly and irresistably awakened, without disturbing anyone else in the vicinity.
No sense waking up depressed...

You are suggesting mounting a motorised kittens tongue instead of the LEDs? |
Well, I'm thinking that the LEDs will not only wake up the kittens, they will also atract them. If the LEDs don't wake you up, the kittens dancing on your head will do! |

If this were combined with a small "third ear" loud speaker
strapped to
the knee, its effectiveness would be doubled. |

We thought you were a nice boy .... that's kinky. |
How much would its effectiveness be increased if a loudspeaker were strapped to both knees ? |
Would this apply to Elephants in the same way ? The question of Elephant Knees is still moot. |
Could there also be a "second nose" (or "third nostril") option ? |
With speakers on both knees, you'd obviously have a
threefold increase in efficacy. |
That's assuming that the user isn't deaf in one knee, though. |

... which might be effective, but could impede walking, and other leg-related activities. |
