There are many "<subject> Bible" books (eg XML Bible, Java Bible etc...) why not have the same books with titles that are more welcoming to people of different faiths? An example would be XML Quran (since there are more muslims than any other faith...)

Because English speakers buy the most computer books, right? and "bible" to an English speaker really connotes "superhandbook!"

Better yet, how about a religion you could program yourself, based on your particular emotional needs? Then you wouldn't have to spend all that time in the Yellow Pages, leafing through all those various denominations-of-denominations, looking for the one you happened to agree with.

For devout libertarians, there could be "XML Shrugged".

The word "bible" comes from the Latin noun "biblia", meaning "book". "Koran" or "Quran" comes from the Arabic verb meaning "to read".

As long as you're naming something, you might as well pick the noun...

"Oh, nononono." I just talked to someone who has been working on encoding the Quran to Unicode; this was his reaction to using the Quran as a metaphor along the lines of "bible".

Different religions place different importance on different things; while bibles have a long tradition of rewordings, mistakes, and translations, muslims are terribly picky about the exact, untouched, preservation of every character of their holy book, and apparently that extends to a strong dislike for the use of Koran as a metaphor.
