With all the different foods that are currently gaining
popularity, why not put them all together under one roof?
Patrons would enter WORLD and be greeted by an array of
serving stations located on an enormous map of the world
covering the floor of the establishment.
You could take
a tour of the world by stopping in East Asia for
sushi and korean beef, move toward India and enjoy curry or
samosas, pass Africa to enjoy various meats, north to Europe
for all sorts of delicious dishes, and finish off your meal with
some "down home" American-style cookin.
I envision WORLD restaurant to fill a large space and be
somewhat economical.
A true "food adventure"
(obviously the idea could be scaled down to the US and
regional foods)
World restaurant
http://www.halfbake.../World_20restaurant My idea is somewhat different than yours. Yours emphasizes the regions, while I ignore the regions and just serve the food regardless. [juuitchan3, May 10 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]
Baked to Perfection

The Food Circus at the Seattle Center was an attempt at this very concept. Didn't fare too well. |
In Halifax, Nova Scotia, there's a restaurant called "Alfredo, Weinstein and Ho's" which is an Italian-Chinese deli. Close. |
I once saw a restaurant billed as "Santa Maria Italian-American Cuisine," and had a picture of Columbus' ship on the sign. So one might infer that this one restaurant served Spanish ("Santa Maria"), Portuguese (where the Santa Maria sailed from, presumably bringing the Portuguese food with it), Italian, American, and even French ("Cuisine") food. |
There's a restaraunt near Lansing, MI called "The Traveller's Club". They serve cuisine from all over the world, but it doesn't bake your idea because they do it on a rotating basis (i.e., Ethiopian this Tuesday, Indonesian on Wednesday, etc.) |
Might just be me, but I don't see the difference between [YoshisWorld]'s idea and [juuitchan3]'s idea. |

I would imagine the place would be very McDonalds-like. The food would be mass produced and microwaved. You would be seated in a large hall with lots of screaming kids etc. |
If someone knows what food they want e.g. Indian, Chinese, American, they will just go to a smaller, cosier, less commerical specialist restaurant with better cooked food and a larger selection of that type of cuisine. |
I will remain neutral on this however as it would probably go down well with people who don't really know what good food tastes like. This means McDonalds would lose customers and that is always a good thing! ;-) |

beau - isn't 'Santa Maria' the same in Spanish and Portuguese? |
Probably. But if you're looking for ways to imagine multiple cultures that might be implied by the sign, you see it as Spanish. For that matter, "Italian" and "American" are in English, so maybe we could also infer that English food might be thrown into the mix as well (there's the set-up - anyone up for the punch line?). |

I thought this might be about meals served shaped like hemispheres -- Northern hemisphere capped by a nice Baked Alaska, etc. |
Diners could focus on a regional cuisine that would be offset by food specialties from bordering nations. |
Very baked in Las Vegas, at just about every hotel/casino buffet in town. |
Also the food court at the mall. |
Baked in the food court in any mall. reensure, I'll engineer it if you bake it. |
I think it's a great idea, well probably not all the cuisines of the world but surely a good idea instead of being confined to one cuisine. A restaurant of mutiple talents. |
we can have this resteraunt in a tall buildiing with the lift buttons reading: "indian", "chineese", "italian", "continental" etc.. |
