For example, a soccer team could give the appearance of deliberately playing badly, leading spectators to think that they were trying to improve their betting odds so that insiders could make a killing when a crucial game comes up. This would of course encourage betting on that team and thus increase revenue for the sports programme. Whatever the outcome of the gambling, it will change the way sports are played; however this could be a useful early lesson, teaching kids that sports are really all about money. |
