Take six different coloured paint dyes of different density (the density is crucial) and mix them all together into a pot of white paint. Take the resulting brown sludge and tip over the heads of two naked kids on a hot day. Suspend both kids in a harness from either arm of a large T-shaped post mounted
on bearings at the base. Spin the post fast enough and as the paint runs down towards their feet the dyes (all of different density, remember?) will centrifuge out into their own colour bands. A fairground ride and body-painting system in one!
(?) I say anti and you say counter, anti, counter, anti, counter let's call the whole thing off.

Methinks the technicolour effect will be heightened by the various hues of vomit now adorning spinning sprogs. |
This is too good for the fish [+] |
For this to truly be tie-dye, it would have to involve child contortionists. |
Looking at them running about with their little bare feet, they remind me of ... turkeys. |
Make it for adults and base it at Burning Man or something, and I'll consider it. I'm a little disturbed by the naked kids at a fairground aspect. |

Riddle: Youre driving on a narrow, curved road with a sheer drop to your right. A sow almost as large as your car is running in front of you. A fire engine is moving at the same speed to your left. Behind you is a police car with its siren going and its raining thick, brown drops. How do you stop and get out? |
I think kids would love this alot more if
they were clothed and got to keep the
colored clothing. |
Give up? Dismount your kiddie car when the merry-go-round stops turning. |
I don't know what was the better image, the real-life pig/car/police/paint chase or the merry-go-round version. I think I'll stick with the first... |
what about on of those verticle drop fair ground rides. surely that would give an instance hit of variable density colour. |
which way round do american merry-go-rounds go? clock or anti-clock? |
suggest culture: amusement park as a category. |
no Tabs it is Clockwise or Anticlockwise |
USians always have it wrong :) |
True po the language is still called English so we in England should be the arbiters of spelling. |
I did wonder if they drove on the *wrong* side of the merry-go-round. |
[po] - Do they go anticlockwise in the southern hemisphere? |
sweet lord baby jesus and the donkey! they go around... got that everyone? around. |
it depends on the way its all plumbed in, energy guy. |
//suggest culture: amusement park as a category// thanks, po - I spent a while browsing categories before settling on 'other' - which is surely a cop-out. |
certainly is wagster. I don't think I have seen very many ideas that *really* should be in other:general and the mods must spend hours clearing it out and btw you can still change it... |
This sounds more like SpinArt <link> rather than tie-dye, or am I missing something? |
You're might be right about the spin-art thing, but art appears on the kids, not the surrounding grass, so maybe not. Po - have found edit button and called it performance art. It could be... |
It may be English in England but it's American English in the US. There are some similarities. |
Personally, I prefer the word "Widdershins". Except if people expect me to dance around in the buff and then throw me in the village pond with my thumbs tied to my toes etc. etc. |
[jutta] You could make this a children's yoga championship - prizes for the best yoga as evidenced by the best tie-die. |
"I was a child contortionist and all I got was this lousy body paint." |
Spin the kiddies fast enough, and you will crush/tear them depending on whether they are swinging or standing. The real way to do it is to use dyes with a different dielectric constant and apply an electric current across their body. Hooray! Stripes! All the way through! |
I like this! Could we spin in one direction and electrify in another (90 degrees opposed) to create tartan? |
Agreed. All that is needed is an osmolarity gradient and we can do three dimensional electrophoresis- er- 3d tartan. |
