Thermochromic film for fishtanks

Slap a thin film of thermochromic film onto your tank, and sunlight hitting the tank while you're at work will leave cool patterns.

I don't have a fishtank, but I understand some fish species are temperature sensitive. Yeah, you can put a thermometer in the tank, but where's the fun in that? How about a sheet of themochromatic film that can be applied to the rear of the tank (like wall paper) so you can see how the tank is doing from across the room?

I expect a variety of sheets would be available to cover a large range of temperatures with some sheets being more sensitive than others. Not only would it be easy to monitor your tank, but the patterns would change constantly (if only slightly). Overlay patterns cut from different sheets and create a rainbow of ocean flora for your fish to enjoy.

(A similar effect could be obtained with thermochromic gravel, but you'd only get the temperature on the bottom of the tank)

[shapu] It sounds like you and I are on the same wavelength. I was thinking about shapes cut from sheets of film with different levels of reactance. That way, you might get some interesting contrasts.

Nuts, I accidentally deleted my anno.

But yeah, I was pretty much thinking along the same wavelength as you, but my idea was a little more complex.

Either way, you got the bread.

Don't worry about algae - buy a suckerfish. They're far cooler than any amount of plastic, too.
