The Kitty Olympics

Apply Olympic Model to Athletic (And Compliant) Cats

Cats are notoriously independent and difficult to train. However, there are a small number of kitties that could be featured in Olympic caliber events. There should be no reason both Summer and Winter Kitty Olympics can't be combined into one.

I am thinking of games such as Synchronize Swim The Kitty, Ski Jump The Kitty, Javelin The Kitty, Curl The Kitty, Pole Vault The Kitty, Bob Sled The Kitty, Steeple Chase The Kitty, Uneven Parallel Bar The Kitty, 40 Yard Dash The Kitty, etc.

It is unlikely you could get a cat to participate in a team sport such as Basketball, even though the idea of Dream Team The Kitty and Double Dribble The Kitty are appealing.

This would be a sporting event dream-come-true for any of the major television networks. Spin-off licensing could be granted to tee-shirt screen printers and Olympic monogrammed cat box manufacturers, who would also would spend tens of dollars (or pesos) in advertising.

OK, I know that there are other sites describing "Kitty Olympics." However, they variously describe the sorts of things cats already do by nature. This idea expects more out of a kitty than just chasing a flashlight beam around the room.

No, we're holding out for the joyous prospect of Skeet The Kitty....

       I miss Cat Pinball.

one of my cats can fetch and the other used to be able to do a complete sommersault, but he is too fat now! I'll bun this because it's cute, but I'm thinking the sports should be more like *hairball coughing X-treme*, *lick, lick and lick*, *sratch pad treadmill race*...

Skeet!! Brilliant, [8th]!! And maybe add Archery The Kitty...
Grogster, Jun 25 2010

[xandram] that is what they already do, therefore no real kitty challenge. It's why I didn't include Kitty Marking Territory or Kitty Sharpening Claws On New Furniture or Kitty In Heat Yowling Outside a Window.

       I CAN HAZ JAVLIN

       Couldn't resist that.

well then I'll remove my bun and give it to my cat! I thought fetching was pretty cool! my cat brings the little mouse back to you so you can throw it again.
xandram, Jun 25 2010

//what they already do, therefore no real kitty challenge// If you want something that would be a real challenge for cats, I propose a _staying awake_ event.

Both of the above are very un-cat like and therefore deserve a spot in the Kitty Olympics... [mouse]'s idea could translate to the Olympic Ironman Competition, and [21]'s idea could be incorporated into the existing Kitty Olympics game, Pole Vault The Kitty, since that seems to be the PVer's preferable way to come down after clearing the bar...

I'd pay to see cats in the pool doing the 50m backstroke.

Kitty Curling: <link> It Was Inevitable.

However, I think it would have been a little less chaotic if they had considered using FROZEN cats.

We got your liquid Nitrogen right here ...

Over short distances, the liquid nitrogen is not required, see link.
