This online webcam first checks your local time, and then continuously moves and focuses along a carefully laid out assembly of 43,200 stopped analog watches, shifting from clockface to clockface to correctly display the current time

There was a screensaver that had a continuously-changing clock face that updated each second awhile ago. I don't remember how many clocks it scrolled through, it wasn't that many, maybe 10.

       Nice! [+]

It's like, ironic 'n like, philosophical 'n stuff.

No brainer for a group effort web page too. People just send upload pictures of their broken watches to the slot currently available. The screen changes every second to another picture of a watch illustrating that time. Then offer an app that puts the scrolling clock pictures in the corner of your screen.

Highlights the not inconsiderable irony that a stopped (or broken) analog clock is actually more useful than one that is inaccurate, as a stopped clock is always exactly right twice a day.

       You just don't know when.

Unless, that is, you've got the time written down on a piece of paper ...

Now wait a clock unticking minute!

The array of broken clocks should be mounted on a stack of rotating wheels, which move behind a viewing window.

With only a small increase in the number of watches - to 1,339,200 watches - you could use watches that show the date as well as the time.

Depending on the faces, the required number could be reduced by inversion and reflection.

Not necessarily, if the "12" position is explicitly indicated. If only "12" is denoted then mirroring will work, but not inversion. If positions other than "12" are also marked numerically, then mirroring won't work either.
