Straw straw

There is currently much wringing of hands over the use of plastic drinking straws, many of which end up as immortal litter.

One solution would be waxed paper straws. An eleganter solution, however, would be to produce straw straws on an industrial scale. Several reeds and grasses are of the right dimensions. All that's needed is a factory that selects straws of a suitable diameter, cuts them to a standard length (between any nodes, of course), then packages and sterilises them.

Damn. Retrospectively pre-empted yet again. Link.

Hay is not the same as straw. For that reason alone, the company which produces those things deserves to be pointedly ignored.
