Staged Explosion Throwing Darts

Throwing darts that once thrown launch a projectile under their own power.

Throwing darts are typically centrally weighted with tapering in both directions away from the centre. In one direction is the needle point, and in the other direction is the fletching.

These throwing darts would be charged much like firecrackers, but with a small amount of explosive packed into the centre cavity. When thrown, the drag that is produced on the trailing end triggers the charge.

Once the charge detonates the relatively massless needle accelerates away from the weighted centre, which decellerates or changes direction as a result of the explosion.

Is this a weapon, or a mechanism for doing long range darts tournaments?

...or was it just a cool invention? [+]

If necessity is the mother of invention, is the halfbakery an orphanage?

The greatest speed and acceleration of the dart is at the time of launch so the explosive would go off then, embedding high-velocity bits of metal and plastic into the dart-thrower's face. Otherwise an excellent idea.

       What hippo said, minus "Otherwise".

Very cool, and what hippo said.

Should be marked for tag line. Made me laugh.

//Nothing necessary has ever been accomplished here.//

I beg to differ, and since I already differ I really don't feel I should have to beg as well.

There would have to be a delay instead of instant ignition.

FUN idea, but the ignition mechanism ( the drag that is produced on the trailing end triggers the charge. ) is far too sensitive for my comfort.

Electronic delay and control is easily possible, ensuring the dart will not detonate unless it was thrown and is still traveling through the air.

       Single greatest tagline ever.
