How about entering your room---star trek style! Geeky idea which spawned on me after a night of heavy drinking. The work would involve:
1. Remove Door Jamb/Frame
2. Remove Studs For Clearance
3. Install Fast Reving Electric Motor Inside Wall Cavity
4. Attach Cables To Doors (High-tech
cosmetics applied of course)
5. Install A Touch Switch (Like The Kind Found In Touch Lamps)
Just make sure to say "Computer, Open Gate B6" before entering.

I'm pretty sure this has been done somewhere before.... |
wow...what colours can you get in it? |
I want a door that slides downwards into the floor when opening, and when closing, slides downwards out of the ceiling. |
I want Empire Strikes Back style Bespin doors, the really really really fast ones. |
My idea is more futuristic, but yours is good too. |
I'm sure they probably have these, though. |
Search for "NeoDoor". You might want to put this in the same place |
Nobody wants 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' doors that say 'Whhrrrrrr.... Thank you!'? |
I want mine designed like the ET spaceship ramp-door thingy, complete with fog machine and light sets. |
Let's all, WTCTTISITMWIBNIIWR. |
While we are WIBNIfing I want the Star Gate security portal. (carbon nano tube construction of course) |
Fine then...while we're at it, I want one of those colored-light-elevator/matter transporter things that responds to the phrase "beam me up." |
Could be 'slightly' more marketable if the motors, gears etc were mounted inside the door itself... then you just need to mount slides in your newly created wall cavity, connect tension cables, plug in power/control cables & away you go! |
Yes indeed. Very creative! |
[benjamin] so... when your basement is full of doors, you sell them to someone whose attic has run out of doors? |
The doors would have to sound right, too. The
original Star Trek door sound was made by sliding a
piece of paper out of an envelope - not sure about
durability. |
Was hoping this was an airlock for energy efficiency
and air quality. |
