Smart Food Containers

Containers that go black when food goes off

This is for those of us who can never remember just how old all those leftovers in the fridge are. Smart plastic bags or containers that will can detect the gases given off by food decomposition, and turn black when they build up. Alternatively, they might register bacteria and fungi. This would actually be really useful in the third world and any other place where they don't have a lot of refrigeration, and lots of people die from botulism and salmonella.

And if we can't make it work that way, we'll just package it in vacuum wrap and make it turn black after three days' exposure to the air.

This is an exelent idea, you should pitch it to tuperware.

In the spririt of the mine canary, I propose a Tupperware Canary.

I bet he'd stay fresh for a while.

Black is probably not a good, politically correct color. Maybe greenish-purple?

How many votes did you get the first time?

Maybe just brown opaque. Anyhow, greenish purple is dark blue, and anything brightly colored (fluorescent green etc.) would be too disconcerting to the consumer.

I doubt the container could, but I think *you* can.
