As you know, I have a flashdrive. Unfortunately, I have lost the lid, exposing the connector to any harm that may befall it for eternity.
Would it not be easy to make little spring-loaded clippy thingies, much like an aligator clip minus teeth plus flat plates at the end - see link for a picture.

Wings3D - took me about 5-10 minutes to make the model, then I used the built-in OpenGL rendering capability - I could use Bryce5 an make it really smooth. |

From the drawing, it looks to me as if it would interfere hugely with anything and everything plugged in to adjacent sockets. |

Some sort of thing where the plug retracts inside behind flaps might work. A rough example that comes to mind is the retractable Sharpie marking pens. |

The usb connector is just a board with four leads. Its not exactly sensitive electronics. All my drives have been missing their covers for ages and have gotten dropped and covered in filth. This is more a solution in need of a problem. |
