It's a regular candle, but you extinguish it. Yourself.

So if you don't extinguish it, will it keep burning forever?

// will it keep burning forever?//

No, because "The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long ... and you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy".

       Time to die ...

If you don't extinguish it, then it's not a Self- extinguishing candle XXV, izzit?

If it is regular, what is its period?

Soon we'll have "Self-extinguishing candle XXX" - the seedily erotic peep-show self-extinguishing candle.

What if I'm out of breath? Will it catch the house on fire again?
blissmiss, Jun 19 2014

And I'd also like to pre-empt someone posting "Schrodinger's self-extinguishing candle" where you don't know if it's extinguished, etc., etc. - and any other predictable variation on this idea.

       Dammit.

I remember a person who was obsessed with extinguishing candles. Birthday parties were a real problem, as soon as the lit match approached the cake - puff - out it went! to much delighted cackling. It was generally agreed that blowing out the match before the candle was actually lit was bad sport, but even that concession did not help much.

Why on earth do we even have a category for this??
notexactly, Nov 14 2015

I believe it was added after a spate of self-extinguishing candle ideas were added in quick succession. I know there was no such category when I originally posted my take on the concept (Self-Extingusihing Candle II). At some point all of these ridiculous and fairly pointless ideas were banished to their own category.
