Has anyone here bought a Segway? Or even ridden one? |
[Combine this with UnaBubba's latest, and we'll see Segway conga lines.] |

Don't forget a paper bag with eyeholes. |

Poor Dean Kamen. Everyone thought Clive Sincalir was a genius too, until he invented the C5. |

After many, many months, Amazon is still selling their Segway pre-offer special deal at $4,950. |
Compare this to the Kelley Blue Book value of a 1992 BMW 3 Series 318is Coupe 2D at $4,150 (private sale, fair condition)... |

I have ridden Segway, weird feeling.
I have designed a scooter which beats Segway in many ways. |
My Slida is lighter
and can take up to 20 - 30 Kg luggage or can take second person to ride on the side. |
Babe pulling power is pretty good, I steer and they kick ;) |
Keeps me having some exercise as well as it does not have any motors. |
You can pull it up some steps easily. |
Weight is much less than Segway. |
And I take it with me when I fly, so it beats your BMW in speed. |
Can you actually take Segway with you if you fly anywhere? |
I have ridden a Segway, but only around inside the shop. It took some time to get used to its tendency to react to my reactions, so I was lurching a good bit at first. If they'd just put a twist-grip throttle on it, it would have been a lot simpler. But they went to great lengths to avoid a twist-grip throttle, by installing fancy gyros and all. |
Then they put a twist-grip on it anyhow, and wired it up to be used to steer. Yep, the speed is controlled by twitchy fore-and-aft leaning instead of a throttle, and the turning is controlled by twisting a grip like a throttle. It makes me laugh. |
Oh, and you can't carry it upstairs, or jump a curb, and you don't want to leave it outside in the rain and the thieves. And it doesn't fold up small to take with you. |
Segway may not be the worst-designed transportation in the world, but it's close. And after all the preliminary hype about it, and because of the high cost it still has, I rate it as the goofiest. |
There are dozens of other electric scooters that are better, and any number of rides that are cheaper. |
