A friend of mine is getting decking for the back garden. As a security feature I thought we could hinge it next to the house and attach chains to the outside edge, enabling us to pull it up against the house in the manner of a medieval drawbridge. Pool of hungry crocodiles optional.

Porchullis Porchullis
Falling spiked bars in a box shape. [ye_river_xiv, Dec 21 2006]

I have seen exactly this done to allow someone to get to an outside basement stairway that they built the deck over. The hinges were at the point where the deck attached to the house and they had a pulley, with which to swing the deck section up, mounted up on a large trellis that arched over the deck .

       Wicked.

I'm building some decking soon. I'll consider this.

       Croissant.

This would go great with my porchullis idea. Or just by itself. Sliding glass doors are frighteningly easy to get through.
