Reality TV and science fiction each have one big problem: The first is a little bit boring and the other has no realism. The idea is to combine the best of the two genres into something unpredictable.

The series begins as any run-of-the-mill reality show with a simple gimmick and some simple characters. As the series evolves the characters are gradually drawn into a complex futuristic plot a la star trek. They have to be played by real actors of course but the viewers won't know that. If it's done skillfully people won't realize it's 'fake' until after a few episodes, e.g. when one of the characters turns into a cocoon and flies off into space.

It's not what you describe, but there is a sci-fi reality show. It's called Scare Tactics and airs on the Sci Fi cable network in the US. See link.

Will it have a guest appearance by Orson Welles? (yes I know he's dead)

Ok, I suppose scare tactics is more of a sci-fi reality show while this is a reality sci-fi show.. blaha

st3f, that is impossible since Orson Welles is dead.

Who cares if he's dead? It's science fiction.

Hey, wait a sec, y'all. Who sez that the TV show Scare Tactics has any relationship to science fiction? It's 100% a melding of reality programming with the horror movie genre.

The problem here is nobody knows how to categorize fictional novels, movies, etc which don't fit into the 5-6 neat major categories, such as drama, adventure, comedy, etc. So, SciFi winds up being lumped with Fantasy (Lord of the Rings, say) and Horror (Texas Chain Saw Massacre).

Back on Earth, Mission Control is composed of the colonists' partners, who must conspire to prevent any Lunar nookie.        Survivor: Jurassic Park
Pretty self-explanatory, really.
