The box contains sixty spices dried and compressed into pencil sized tubes and has a built-in sharpener.

This is a very cool idea, but I have some concerns. |
One of them is: how good are spices after they've
been ground, compressed into a pencil and
stored? Most lose their
flavour if stored as powders, and are best if freshly
ground. |
Compressing the powder might help, though,
since little of the surface is exposed to free air. |
Perhaps some binding agent (such as an edible
wax - modesty prevents me from naming an
example) would not only assist in the
pencilification of the powdered spices, but also
help them to remain fresh. |

There is historical precedent for Milord Buchanan's
proposal: in 1887 the world-famous Prussian battlefield
caterer and facial hair enthusiast Oberstfeldkolonel Graf
von Bisselkopf III patented a peppercorn and anise flavored
mustache wax and a
special cylindrical applicator--patents now held by a
certain international wax production congolmerate. Will we
find the telltale prints of Sturton's size 14.5 Florschiem
double
wingtips in the dust on the records vault floor? |

[Alterother], we have known one another (in the
Halfbakerish rather than the biblical sense) for
several years now, and I consider you to be a
friend. Therefore, there is no need for formality -
a simple "m'lud" will do. |
And good lord, don't remind me of von Bisselkopf.
Still, it only goes to show that you should never
take a recipe on trust, and also explains why von
Bisselkopf III never smoked (and, for that matter,
why there was never a von Bisselkopf IV). |
(And, for reference, Sturton has abandoned
Forscheim after a rather disappointing experience;
he now has is shoes made for him by a little
gentleman in Capezzuolo.) |

I understand completely. My own pair have given me some
very...unusual...blisters on the three occasions that I've
worn them. Hopefully they'll be broken in by the time I
wear them to my wake; I plan to do a lot of dancing. |
I'm wearing my pink python kitten-heel docker's
boots - I like to make people wonder. |
I think this is quite a good idea. I would purchase. + |
//Now, or to your wake?// |
Only if you dance with me, m'lud. |
Just the one. And no tango. |

// how good are spices after they've been ground, compressed into a pencil and stored?// |
Who says they need to be ground? |
I don't think you'll be able to form cloves,
peppercorns, star anise, cumin, cardamom or most
other spices into pencils without powdering them
first. |

If they aren't a static discharge could
cause a particulate cloud explosion during the grinding
process. |
