Be sure to label the required package:
caution, contains peanut products for
those allergic. |

I love peanut butter apples. What about
the core? If you're drilling all those holes
might as well take out the core yeah? |
I hate peanuts, try marzipan or ground hazlenuts! |
Any combo could work. Twitch, nice idea about the core...why not? This will also keep too much of the apple from being removed to make room for the PB. |
BTW, if any reader hasn't tried this combo, you may be pleasantly surprised. Plus, it is a lot of work to cut the apple and spread the peanut butter, so buying this premade half-baked idea makes sense to me. |
Also, I thought that the hole plugs could be hardened caramel. |
I hate caramel. Too sweet (as well as with
most candy... just too sweet). |

The correct way to perform this feat of culinary genius is to create a drill-bit that doubles as a hypodermic needle. Attached to some cordless wonder, such a utensil would allow the user to drill their apple, and inject it with peanut butter at the same time. |
You might use this utensil to create other gastronomic treats such as; Garlic butter drilled anything, Pork Pies drilled with Cranberry Sauce, Cream-drilled jam doughnuts, chocolate drilled marzipan - the whole gamut! |
Not only does it need to be used as a chef-aid. This injecto-drill might replace normal day-to-day cutlery. Of course, the correct etiquette would need to be established. One wouldn't want to be seen eating one's first course with a dessert drill. |
I wouldn't be caught dead with this tool. |

BUN! But how does it remain fresh without the oil of the peanut butter mixing with the juice of the apple and eventually separating apart from one and other? I would imagine that this would be a messy snack. |
Since the PB is oil-based, and the apple juices are mostly water, there will be minimal mixing. Each bite will cut across the PB tube, perpendicularly, so there should be minimal mess. |
The only possible significant messiness will be if the core is filled (and thus a larger tube). |
btw, i like zen-tom's idea. watch Ron Popiel come up with it (the flavor injector 2.0). |
Baked by me :) , I just use this apple core remover thing and jsut fill it with peanut butter, then just take the top and bottom parts of the core and stick them back on. |
Due to the fact that I was not warned about trying this at home, I went ahead and did it. The apple started falling apart as I started taking bites out of it but I am not sure if the holes were too big or too close together. Also, the texture of the PB was not the same as if I took a slice and scooped up a wad of it out of the jar. Anyhow I still keep my bun vote because half-baked inventions are only supposed to work in theory. |

i think i'm gonna be sick |
Although you may be suprised, or not, I've found mashed banana, and vegimite sandwiches on whole grain is faaaaaaaantastic!!! |
Jscott, congrats to you for giving it a shot! How inspiring, and thanks for keeping the bun on. Back to the drawing board... |
I'm a Jiffy boy. Well, not sure anymore
because of the crap they're putting inside
of it. And because I know somebody will
look at my
anno and say "they put actual crap in your
PB?", i'll clarify: All that hydrogenated crap
and the high fructose corn syrup and some
other stuff that is not good for you. |
Just for clarification, when is an idea a recipe and when isn't it? Also, why doesn't anyone use the halfbakery recipe Yahoo group? |
For me [nineteenthly], and this is just my personal opinion, it's the reliance on powertools that suggests that this idea warrants a possible non-recipe classification in this case. |
Half-bakery recipe yahoo group? for real?
link? |
Oh please do not let me join the HB recipie group. I am likely to come up with concoctions that may seriously affect your health in an adverse way- such as mixing crushed oreo cookies with peanut butter and spreading it on batter dipped deep fried french bread. |
I found it somewhere as link on another idea, can't remember which, but it seems to have died several months or maybe years back. The thing is, like probably a lot of other people here, i get a lot of recipe ideas, for instance 'Sarcastic Fruit Salad', which i've actually made and is very popular, but it's inappropriate to post them here. I'll go and look for it. Does anyone know anything about it? |
This is a great idea for a food product! Healthy and Yummy! As for the squishyness of the peanut butter when you bite into the apple... I'm thinking the bulk peanut butter mixture that would be injected into the apple would be a bit thicker than the pb you buy in the jar at the grocery store...possibly more like the low fat peanut butter that has most (or at least alot) of the fats removed and therefore makes a thicker paste of p.b.
But would taste just as good because the moisture of the apple. These would definitely have to be a refrigerated product I think, just to keep them fresh. |
Also injecting other things: caramel, hazelnut butter, cinnamon?.. this would be kind of like an inside out candied apple. |
