Doesn't it suck when you use your one call from jail and the number is busy, or they aren't there? Well, this business solves that problem.

You supply the business with a list of numbers to call; your best friend, your parents, your siblings, your significant other. You pay a one time fee and your numbers are filed by your name. You are given a business card with an easily rememberable number.

When you do wind up in the pokey you call the number and give them your name, where you are at and who you want them to call. The business calls your number and give them the info.

You might only use it once, but it could really save

Might also be useful on the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire TV show.

Only as a phone a friend though FarmerJohn, you'd need Bail to actually compete!

Maybe [kembrew] lives in a country were arbitary arrest is more common and therefore such insurance is more necessary?

Valid point [Aristotle]. In the U.S., an unanswered call doesn't count against you. In most cases, the police will allow you more than one call.

Simultaneously, I think the market for this service would be fairly small (but possibly well defined). Maybe it should be an ancillary service offered by bail bondsmen or lawyers.

If you had no one to help you, give the business its own number and you could sit outside the cell a long time waiting for the call to get through.

Are we talking prison or jail?

The jail here has a phone (actually 2) in the booking area where you're free to make all the calls you want.

I think you should be connected to a random number.

AA: It's the same here. They have some sort of jail-only collect calling company that charges about $15 for a 3 minute call...even to next door. They're happy to let you make all the calls you want.
