h a l f b a k e r yIncidentally, why isn't "spacecraft" another word for "interior design"?

This idea was changed because I misunderstood a post and the misunderstanding was better than the original idea. (thank you Neut)
Artists have done an incredible visual trick of painting the background behind a tree on the trunk to make it appear that a portion is missing. (See link)
(old idea)
This
is very time consuming and therefore very rare. A computer app could do the job very quickly. It would create an overlay of the background configured specifically to the tree, post, power pole etc that it's creating the illusion for. No need to have one big piece because 8.5 x 11 prints would be configured such that you'd just tape them in place in a grid collage.
An entire city could be decorated with these in a day. Might be a way to advertise something, have the product or maybe that big brother eyeball floating in the space where the tree trunk is missing.
(new idea)
Take photos of the tree and background from multiple angles and create a wraparound poster with lenticular covering so that it changes as you change your viewing angle.
So as you pass by, it would appear to be cut and floating from different angles.

This as a poster around a tree or post with different viewing angles.

Exactly this only wrapped around a lamp post, tree or power pole.

It would look pretty neat/trippy to drive along a street & have the lampposts fade in & out of existence as you pass them. |
You mean with diffaction grating art? That's an entirely new idea! |
No, I mean the art only works from a specific point-of-view; from other positions it will look like a lamppost that needs a wash. Lenticular type detailing would work to make it MORE invisible (ie. from multiple angles), not less. |
Well thats interesting, in that case Ill add the lenticular thing. |
I tried that, but the family preferred the version with chicken. |
Suprised nobody liked this, I thought it was pretty neat. |

Found the exact system that would work for this. Maybe I'll contact the artist and see if he wants to do a version with the floaring cut post illusion. (last link) I really think you'd walk by and get the illusion that the thing was cut in two and floating, for an advertisement with the product in the middle I think this could even make some money. Definately patentable. |
