Tattoos are increasingly popular. However, tattoos are made by artificially introducing pigment into the skin, creating unnaturally sharp lines and vivid colors. Tattoos are the Mount Rushmore of body design - beautiful, but created by harshly imposing manmade geometries on organic shapes.
Many
fair-skinned folks have grown various moles and freckles by the time the come to the age where they are considering tattoos. Only rarely do these home grown pigments sprout in patterns reminiscent of a design - although, like Polonius, it is sometimes possible to see a pattern very like a whale or other critter.
I propose to help nature along by a freckle / mole harvest and rearrangement. Pigmented spots would be cut free then grafted back to form a pattern. In peoplel with many moles it might be possible to create pointilist art, with landscapes and battle scenes only visible from a distance. Folks less mole-blest could content themselves with spiders, aliens, whales, "Mom" and other typical tattoo topics.

I have 6.023*10^23 of these. |

It occurs to me that rather than gather dozens of moles, one could dissociate a single large, scaly mole into its constituent cells then replace them with a needle. This would make a more homogenous line as the cells regrew to full moledom, rather than a hodgepodges of various shaped and sized moles. |

Include hairy warts in the procedure, so that sailor can have can have a real beard. |

But why the surgery? Couldn't you just inject melatonin in the desired spots? (Sort of the opposite of the Michael Jackson process.) |

Those of us who freckle when we tan could get there with custom mask designs to wear outdoors. |

If you are going to inject pigments, you are right back to tattooing. As for melanin, I am not sure if it would persist outside of cells. Macrophages might come, gobble it up, and leave. |

3D textured tattoos. In any colour you like as long as it is brown. Yuck. |

I'll look in to this if it progresses to the point of being able to uniformly redistribute freckles. Not that a fair-skinned redhead living in the desert would have freckles... |
