Membership car wash that follows the member

Worth a bit of extra money

Car wash memberships with monthly subscription fees for unlimited washes are nothing new, but as far as I've seen they are all limited to specific vehicles, and don't follow the driver. For someone who has several vehicles and only drives each one occasionally, or someone who frequently rents/leases vehicles for work, a new tier of membership is an untapped market. This would work the same as a usual car wash membership, but instead of a barcode that is taped to the windshield of a specific vehicle, it would be carried in the form of a wallet sized card like you scan when walking into a gym. This would allow you to get a wash no matter what you're driving that day. It could even be limited to one or two washes per day to prevent abuse.

Not actually a desert; things still grow there, apparently [pertinax, Oct 18 2024]

Of course, here is the anti idea for this idea ... Bike_20Beauty_20Bugs

As somone who simply has never washed any car I've ever owned (and never will) this will be of no use to me. I find the rain does a great job and it's totally free. There should be some kind of cash back scheme for those like me who regard cars as metal boxes with a wheel at each corner and some kind of motor that makes them move around and destroy the climate of course. Neutral on this idea unless there's something more daft about that I don't see.

       I will allow this.

Climate changes on its own. The once hanging gardens of Babylon are now desert. The current arctic will be soon, geologically speaking, tropical.

Tax for this change is bullshit. My two cents.

       Sorry, as you were.

Change too fast and the economy will suffer hard.

//There should be some kind of cash back scheme//

Have you considered simply not purchasing this product you have no use for?
It's like a full refund service cancellation, but without the hassle.

//car wash that follows the member// like an off road roomba, doggedly keeping 10m behind you as you drive, ready to deploy its robot arm mounted nozzles and brushes whenever it detects a splash of dirt

//As somone who simply has never washed any car I've ever owned (and never will)//

I was in broad agreement with this attitude for many years. This was motivated by a good eye for paintwork, and the swirly damage done by enthusiastic but naive car care, a crappy car/laziness combination and an extremely rainy climate. Now, my car lives the much harsher environment of the US east coast. There's more dust, pollen, bird shit, miscellaneous tree detritus, road grime and salt/grit in the winter. If you don't occasionally wash the car then you get damage. Paint damage from bird shit from birds that have been gorging on some red acidic fruit seems the worst, then there's a mix of grime and organic matter that can compromise seals and block drain holes leading, in some cases to the sunroof drain of a 2013 Mazda overflowing and making for a damp carpet.

So now a cursory wash occurs every now and then.

Where I live we can go 9+ months without meaningful rain. At a certain point, as bs0 said, the accumulation of dirt poses a risk to the vehicle.
