Burglars typically break into a home through pre-existing openings, such as windows or doors. Oftentimes, a door or door frame can be physically cut open for easy access, as they are preferable to windows. I propose that locks, doors, and window frames be filled in random locations with a high-pressure
fluid tube similar to the ink-stainers found in anti-shoplifting devices. This way crooks'll have to be green (pick yer color) for a day or two. As for cutting open windows, a glass-break detector could be rigged to set off an ink stain.
If the burglar attempts to remove a door or window from the frame by removing screws, they will be stained as well. If the owner attempts to install/remove the door, they will have to hire the door installer to come out and extract the door with a special device that I haven't designed yet.
Finally, all padlocks and bike locks could be made so that if the hasp is cut, the cutter person is stained. Mwahahaha.

Moderately certain this is Baked. Only link I can find is for anti-burglar paint (which, as it requires the burglar to apply it to him/herself, is a wonderfully half baked). |
I like the idea of a paint spray device for bike locks - that should be pretty practical. |

In my area, there used to be pull-alarm fire boxes mounted on the utility poles. The actual alarm pulls were covered with a purple ink-like substance that stayed on your fingers for days afterward. This was done for the purpose as described by future robert above me. |
They took them all down last year. I bought one and have it mouted on the wall in my basement. |
Because it has a rustic charm about it. |
Why have you put it in your basement then? |
I'm not convinced that burglar proof paint has "rustic charm" anyway.
Old farming utensils - yes, horse brasses - yes, furniture made from driftwood - yes, fire alarms covered in indelible paint - no. |
How about, instead of paint (or with paint for that
matter) it could squirt stink at the robber, rather like a
skunk. You can hide the visual mark by lying low, but
make it so stinky that people for blocks around can smell
it... that'll catch your crook!! |
(At Aurora's dinner party). "Never mind the smell. We had an attempted robber the other day." |
I put it in my basement because that's where I keep my rustic charm stuff. It's a finished basement with a bar. The right kind of place for odd things like this. |
It is not covered with indelible paint, only the small knobby thing you pull, which is accessed by pulling down a handle, which opens a little door, revealing the knob. |

Now stop being so damn nosey. |

The setting - New Orleans.
The problem - Rampant theft- they stole the box of laundy soap for pete's sake - they also got the grill, while it was in use - coals, smoke, burgers and all.
The solution - A purse, some dollar bills, odds n ends that make it look convincing.
The catch - The green explosive bank dye pack firmly attached to the ground set to go off when the bag is lifted.
The Moral - Dont miss oportunities... I would have enjoyed putting out an all points for the person that matched the blue silhouette on my carport roof. |
The only solution to being thieved in New Orleans that I found during my 4-5 years there was being poorer than the thieves. Unfortunately I usually was. |
