Hurling camera

Won't be coming in man-size for the forseeable future

This would be something shaped and weighted like my camera. When overlooking something from a great height - e.g. on a bridge over a valley - and I get the urge to throw my camera off, I can throw this off instead.

Should probably be biodegradable, in case everyone decides to throw theirs off the same bridge.

Why don't you just smash your camera with one of these? http://www.throwthi...com/item.asp?id=171

huh? I would just throw a pebble.

Huh? I don't understand the reason for your question [dentworth].
bristolz, Nov 13 2004

it's the urge I don't understand, the fact that he wants to replace the camera with a useless biodegradable object, I guess that is commendable,
dentworth, Nov 13 2004

Well, yeah, this is fairly pointless and uninteresting, at least to me.
bristolz, Nov 13 2004

I guess I'm the only one to get the urge to throw things I value from great heights then.
lyserge, Nov 13 2004

In that case you should probably resist any urge to reproduce in the future.

I imagined this was a camera you hurled at people—celebrities like me—when you wanted to get that ultimate close-up. (And this is Miss Day’s eyeball just before impact.)
pluterday, Nov 13 2004

We have linked to cameras flown by kite and balloon before, which this is akin to. I'd certainly welcome a cheap commercial version.

But I think the real reason so many of us have the urge to leap off into space is our tree-borne ancestry. Back when we proto-chimp-humans, I guess we were accustomed to standing on high branches and hurling ourselves off into space, to land on the next tree. So it's in our blood, and we are plagued with dreams of flying and bizarre cliff-edge urges.

Oh I see the problem now, some of you all, [DrC] descended from the apes, and some of us[mostly Republicans] were created as humans from the beginning, it all makes sense now [lyserge].
dentworth, Nov 13 2004

I think the chimps that threw themselves willy-nilly from the trees (and hit the ground) probably didn't live long enough to pass on their genes to another generation (I believe thats why we never dream of falling & hitting the ground.)
po, Nov 13 2004

Chimps throwing their willy-nillies around the treetops sounds like a scene from Animals Do The Funniest Things.

Btw, po, if ever you want to experience one of those falling & hitting dreams, just sleep on a small boat when the grey and crinkly is choppy. Hm, maybe that's where the term "deck-ape" comes from...

       What a dumb idea.
The Kat, Nov 14 2004

So I guess it's not really about taking photos of a violent Irish sport akin to hockey?
wagster, Nov 14 2004

[oniony], there is no reason it cannot be made so. Note that it is biodegradable. That means it is made of cheese. So you could eat this, then hurl off of a bridge.

On another note, I discourage you from visiting bridges over valleys with any small children, [lyserge].
bungston, Nov 15 2004

If you have the urge to hurl your camera from a great height then why not just go ahead and throw it. It's just a camera. Perhaps you will feel better.
hangingchad, Nov 25 2004

Because I really, really don't want to damage my camera. I just get this urge as well.
lyserge, Nov 25 2004

//So I guess it's not really about taking photos of a violent Irish sport akin to hockey?//

Akin to Hockey?!? Are you kidding me? Hockey is played by horsey young daddies girls. Hurling is more akin to the Normandy landings; but in shorts.
etherman, Nov 25 2004

There's a conventional phrase for the camera-hurling urge: "the imp of the perverse." Normally, it's an urge to throw *oneself* off the bridge.
