In some stores, they put fake cardboard TVs, DVDs and computers on the furniture they sell. Some of them look convincing and makes you wish you owned one of those big screen TVs, or that hollow i-Mac, complete with non-functional mouse. But not everyone has the budget to own these.
Introducing Decepto-tech,
specializing in fake appliances. We expanded our fake TV and computer lines to make them available to consumers; not only specialized retailers.
To cut cost, the fake appliances are assembled by the buyer, borrowing the IKEA idea. This way, giant-screen TVs can immediately be carried home, thus avoiding expensive deliveries.
Impress your guests with our appliances. Our fake models imitate the most expensive brands.
Free with every purchase is Decepto-tech's "100 and 1 stylish reasons to provide your guests with as to why your TV/DVD/COMPUTER/HI-END AUDIO temporarely doesn't work". Great for conversations and making you interesting; you won't have to spend a fortune to make new friends!

I love the idea, but cardboard just isn't going to cut it with my friends. What I need is just hollow appliances, sold by the manufacturers of the real appliances. I wouldn't think they would cost must at all. Leave out all the electronics and working parts, perhaps replace them with a cinder block or two for realistic weight. |

Could backfire though. Your friends might think you are a turkey and disassociate themselves with you as they try to operate these cardboard cut-outs posing as applicances. Then you would have name it Depresso-tech. |

we did something similar not so long ago. I cannot find it - something that looked damned expensive but wasn't. where's phoenix when you need him? |

The burglars (attracted to your house by the view of your many eminently resalable items) would get a surprise when they find out they are all fake. Either they will give you a round of applause in your absence, praising your name as the jolly king of appliance-amusement, or (more likely) they will piss all over your house and smash everything in sight in revenge for their wasted efforts. |

How is this different from the fake appliances that you seen in furniture stores? |

"Aww, what got the cardboard TV all wet?!" |

This reminds me of those "Cellular Phoneys" they used to sell when cell phones were expensive and still cool.
Looked like a cell phone but without your wife nagging you in the ear. Sounds pretty good now. |
