F1 Rollercoaster

Ride a coaster with the g forces of a Formula One car

Five lights... and you're off. It's GO GO GO at the Silverstone rollercoaster. You're pushed into the back of your seat as the cart speeds off the start line with the squeal of tires shouting from the speakers. Seconds later, you're hanging in the straps you approach the first corner; Copse. High g force from the righthander followed by hard acceleration towards Maggots. Right follows left follows right follows left as you're flung through Maggots, Becketts and Chapel in quick succession then it's the long hard burn toward Stowe...

The F1 rollercoaster would be an extreme rollercoaster designed to recreate the g forces as measured by the telemetry of an F1 car at a particular circuit. The rollercoaster would start high up on a steep slope to get the thrills of the start line and would finish with a gentle slow down so that you can get your breath back and wipe the vomit off your jumper.

'Drivers' would be strapped in securely by their pit crew after signing waivers and submitting to a medical exam. Helmets supplied.

Description (displayed with the short name and URL.)

Circuits are long... Speeds hit 200 mph on straightaways... F1 is neck and neck and neck after the Hungarian GP... Schumacher may have to wait to get his 6th crown... Ferrari either needs dump the 2003 car and get back in the '02 box or switch to Michelin or Bridgestone needs to reformulate it's compounds or something, anything... Yeah, I like F-1 - Bun.

       Excellent! +

My boy Juan has a shot at the title! My boy Jacques has a shot at retirement.

hey ato, you forgot the +1

Yes - really good. Although the operating company might find themselves liable for various heart attack related fatalities unless they were careful with the small print.

If start-up cost is no object, how about this: use the real Silverstone, and realistic radio/computer controlled F1 cars to recreate actual races?

If your back wing falls off at 160 mph, like Ralph Firman's, does it recreate the 47G impact into the barrier?
angel, Aug 26 2003

Only non-fatal races would be recreated. Though, if the identity of the races were kept secret, the element of uncertainty might attract some people.

Thank you [po] for noticing. [st3f] Have a croissant, really this time. Would love to ride this. There is a show that puts you into one of those motion simulatoprs and gives you a ride around laguna seca with Mario Andretti, this would be even better.

Why the helmet, is there a risk that things could become somewhat unrailed?

       [fogfreak], sounds cool.

Alternatively, get driven around in one of those two seat race-car trainers.

       Alternatively, buy a second-hand Caterham 7 Superlight 500 (that's 500HP/Ton) for about $20k and experience 0-100 in 8.1s and cornering to match.

I've seen the Caterhams in action - they *rip*.
