The new Euro bills ('notes' for Brits) have designs of European-style architecture: bridges, windows, doors, and arches.
In order to avoid favoritism, they had non-existant ones drawn. The ones you see on the bills aren't anywhere.
Pity the poor American tourist who wants to see them.
But
wait! You *can* visit them! They're in Finland! Of course!
Imagine this:
Finland, known as the 'boonies of Europe' has constructed all of the monuments depicted on the Euro bills.
For the aquaduct, they hired real Romans (from Rome) to work on it!
"Who built the Great Aquaduct of Turku?"
"Why, the Romans did, of course!"
That free labor zone was finally good for something!
And since Finland built them first, any country who tries to do so will just be making cheap imitations of the originals.

The structures on the notes are more expressions of architecture periods in Europe, rather than a celebration of a particular monument. |
They might start to build these, but will they ever Finnish? |
Nah, there'll be norway to see them. |
I think Finland, at least Helsinki, is very cosmopolitan and not the boonies at all. |
That's too bad, really. So much architectural history that needs to be fictionalized in order to not alienate folks from different countries sharing the same numismatickler. |
Somewhere round here I have a picture of myself sticking my fingers up the nose of Sibelius on his monument in Helsinki. Happy Days! |
This might make an interesting theme park; a celebration of all that is european. The monuments would be impressive. If they built them, I'd probably go to Swee-dem! |
Dana - mark my words, I-tell-ya, I'm gonna see these if I have to go to Holland back. I think it's so Germane to our Frank discussions, that I'll Port you, gal, and and Trina, too, over there, even if it'S painful for me. Yeah, I know it's not in Our land, but I'm sure we'll be welcomed, so it's Finn with me. How's Trina, by the way? Yeah, Lots o' burgers have that effect on me, too. Well, ring the Bell - gee, this'll be fun! |
lawpoop, you get a croissant from me just for bringing to my attention this rather amusing exercise in political stupidity - err, correctness, I mean. |
[briztols] Helsinki is a very cosmopolitan city, but, it is in the middle of the boonies. |
Venture outside of it and you'll see what I mean. |

[dag] There's no way the EU Commission could ever come to agree to new designs , much less which monuments exactly to put on them. |
With this plan, Finland can do this all on their own, no EU involvement necessary. |
We have a little Stonehenge a few hours from here, near Goldendale, in eastern Washington. |
We have a big one here, near Salisbury, in Wiltshire. |
dag, how much do you charge to let me push one over? |
But ours is more authentic. |
That's because American's invented Europe. The one in Vegas is a prototype. |
you have London Bridge too, but not the one you thought you were getting :) |
Apparently (the Paris correspondent in the newspaper collects euro coins) Finnish euro coins are almost impossible to get hold of, so this idea just confirms that the Finns secretly run the whole thing and are using the Belgians as scapegoats in their plan to take over the world using subsidised mutant GM-triffids. |
They're all over the place in Finland. |
Our London Bridge is more authentic. |
That's because they sold it to ya after it kept on Falling Down. |
Since the pictures are of fragments, not whole buildings, these could just be different sides of a single building. It could house a pancake chain, or a European Embassy, or both. |
