Wouldn't the type of failure that would make this feature valuable be a hard drive failure? |
I like it, one good use is if you go to one of those websites that completely f's up your computer, and you see the "virus downloading..." bar. This happened to my friend a few weeks ago and he immediately unplugged his external HDD, but internal drives can't normally be disconnected like that. |
A parachute seems like a bit much. Maybe it could just disconnect the drive? |
There might be a problem with people/pets/expensive
stuff being injured by the projectile-like hard drive being
shot out of the laptop. |
And then you have to replace the little explosive charge..
And what about the G-force when it ejects? It will exceed
the Gs from hitting the floor many times over... |
+ for style, but..
- for practical reasons |
[DIYMatt], these websites give fair warning now? |
The ejection could be such that it does not subject the HD to much acceleration (see link). |
Regarding link - how is that real?! I won't believe it until I see a higher quality video! |
There are lots of allegations of fakery about this video. seems like it is at least misleading, as the technology is not cutting edge, but rather aged : [link] |

I'm sure as hell not using this laptop on my lap. |

There should be a countdown to self-destruct voice. Every good self-destruct device has a robot lady counting down. |

Re: the links: MKVs are nothing new. The Army has been claiming that it's close to deploying an MKV/landmine combo, that when detecting enemies (by itself or through remote sensors) launches into the air, fires copper explosively-formed penetrators at objects which match search images embedded into software, and then autodetonates the unused penetrators. |

Lockheed's is actually WAY behind the curve. Hovering using thrust vectoring isn't easy, but it's not that difficult either. |
