Diagonal Chess

Just like chess, but you start diagonally.

Before starting, both players agree to putting the king in the back, or queen in the back, or not.

Everything else is the same.

The main advantage is that the game goes much quicker.

Also, all your pieces look pretty cool in a huddle, at the beginning.

I suspect you mean that your pieces start in a diamond, rather than "diagonally". But I may well be wrong.

Does "back" mean the corner? Where do all the other pieces start?

See link for a similar named variant (and a great site full of interesting chess variations with an attached discussion board, hint hint).

       Yeah!

only, in the one I play, you let your opponent decide where one of your pawns starts.

I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to give myself a qwazonte for this one.
