Dairy Whales

gather whale milk with calf-shaped submarines

Humans are hungry and the seas are vast. We might reap the sea's bounty without killing ALL the whales with whale calf-shaped subs to 'nurse' on female adult whales. This could create a human proxy for whales; an interest group that would defend them, albeit for a price. Whale milk is probably really nutritious, and whale cheese could be aged at sea in the support ships until landing.

This turns out to be a well-trod mental path. [briancady413, Mar 12 2008]

I was thinking about sea mammal milk recently. I think it would taste very fishy.

It's also redundant, so I'll have to go find the other whale cheese post...
Correction: dolphins

I can't bun this. Wales have no real concept of the calendar, no easy way of reminding one of appointments, are are too large a format to fit in one's jacket pocket.

[rcarty], i envisage either an infinite branching chain of people, in a series of very uncomfortable positions, or people suckling themselves through tubes, and i can't imagine why either would need to happen.

[eighth of seven], that's exactly the kind of thought i have when i am out.

//Wales have no real concept of the calendar//

sp: Wales *has* no real concept of the calendar

       Which explains a lot.

[+] I can imagine what mechanical milking machine would look like. But I have a question- How do you get the whale to stay still long enough?
Jscotty, Mar 14 2008

       Same as with cows.

This should drive the barn cats nuts.

       //you haven't actually seen Napoleon Dynamite?//

No, sorry about that. Ignore me. I'm an idiot.

I think MB wants us to read into his anno that he has misread the idea title as "Diary Whales", as if one were to employ whales to keep one informed of one's schedule. Would merely be droll without the "Wales" reference.

Why not just domesticate the species? This seems like a self decieving way of avoiding captivity and husbandry. The indignity and suffering that the wild whale would endure would be tremendous. Imagine if an alien attached to your nipple and could not be removed contenuously and freakishly milking you all day long. I don't think that this would be adequite to keep the whale lactating. Anyway the way of doing anything like this is domestication as anything else seems cruel to me.
