[Soundtrack for this idea includes "Staying
Alive" by the BeeGees, "Car Wash" by Rose
Royce, "I feel love" by Donna Summer]
We all need one : a portable glitter ball to
bring a little of that foot-tapping, disco
dancing Studio 54 vibe to your living
room.
Remove the light bulb from its
socket and
attach the bayonet disco ball. This new
disco-product, uses the light socket to
secure power to rotate the glitter ball and
to shine a powerful maglite at its shiny
mirrors.
Get down funky cats, lemme see your
moves.

Add this awful/awesome song to the soundtrack, (see link). I used to play this very loudly through my car speakers while in crowded areas for reactions. I hope the sample gives enough of the song. |
What about a car version for the interior dome light? |

[Dusts off gold lame flares.] |

This would have to be extremely
lightweight as the ball and motor would
both be suspended by the electric cord
and (rather flimsy) bayonet fixing.
Perfectly possible though. [+] |

My disco-hater yin is crushed with disappointment that the idea was not, as I imagined, a disco-globe each reflective surface home to a glinting atom-sharp bayonet, the whole globe being designed to drop from the night-club ceiling, probably at the hands-in-the-air sonic calm before the drop, onto the soft heads of the various disco-bitch attendees. My disco-lovin' yang, however, is just giddy with glee at the prospect of kitting every "mother" in my flat with shiny, 4/4 disco-ey goodness. |

For those of us provincial Americans who may have missed an earlier idea, a bayonet fitting is the British equivalent of the American screw-in lightbulb socket. |
The lightrays effect of this idea could be accomplished with LEDs and some miniature motors and lenses. If the goal is to have that big mirrored ball, an inflatable Mylar ball could be made with facets, somehow. If the purpose is to bring back Disco, a military bayonet up the jacksie is a better idea. |

//bring back Disco//
Disco never went away, man! |

//...little of that foot-tapping, disco dancing Studio 54 vibe to your living room.//
All I got from that A&E special about Studio 54 is that it was a drug den. Is that included as well? |
no drugs included, but I can't speak for
your house [lbf] ;) |
[baconbrain] in the UK we have both screw
fit and bayonet - naturally, the disco ball
comes with both fittings. |
Fit a discoball to every room in your
house, cats. |
... and for pulp fiction fans? |
[po] lovely reference... forgotten that. |
Darn. I thought this was going to be a "let's all". As in "let's all bayonet disco balls whenever we see them." |
... you know me better than that |
i was wondering what the mechanism for
bayonet release would be, and what disco
had done to deserve it. first time i've heard
bayonet used as a light bulb fitting. |
//in the UK we have both screw fit and bayonet// - We're great at standardisation here, that's why we use both metric and imperial interchangeably. |
of course not [ian]. dem lightbulbs are too
damn newfangled fa me! ima sticking wit
the
bright ball thing uppa in da air for
ilumanationism. hurr hurr. |
no really, bayonet fittings aren't used in
the u.s. we just call them light fixtures. |
