As the cost of a computer drops it makes more and more sense to place this device into all large appliances. It would detect anything the approximate weight and heat of a small child or pet and send a notification to the device control, which would refuse to start and sound an alarm.

Inspired. A tiny programming change would be all that's required to turn appliances into self-acting traps for cats and/or small children.

A safety interlock to protect dogs would be necessary.

Babies cry. At least that is what I was told.

An audio only prototype would seem a good place to start.

//safety interlock to protect dogs// I'd be more inclined to go with size/weight: that way you could get purse-rats as well.
