Everyone knows that the great ocean liners of the early 20th century eventually evolved into today's cruise ships. I propose the creation of a cruise line utilizing large airships much like those seen in the 30's and 40's and with similar luxury and amenities (albeit on a smaller scale) to modern cruise
ships.
This could also be further extended by operating a cruise line with both airships and conventional cruise ships.
Problems of scale [WcW]?

Or perhaps something like one of these...

Nope. Like one of these.

Parabaked by Moorcock & probably a hundred others, but
badly needed over here in the real world. [+] |

after a quick perusal of the Hindenburg site I suppose that this could be compared to a very small cruise ship so actually inside the realm of reason. scaled up to the capacity of a modern cruise ship would be absolutely huge. |

[jurist] your wonderful link pulled me in, and then I
thought about the idea, and so yeah+ |

[mouseposture] - " parabaked ", very good. I use " preheated ", myself. |

[normzone]//parabaked// Thank you, but it's
[MaxwellBuchanan]'s coinage. |

//i can haz problemz of scale// well if you insist you can, otherwise with the lifting power increasing cube-ically with size, while the number of passenger-cabins placed on the skin increases square-ically, there's an optimum (rather large) size where the entire outside of the envelope is composed of passenger-cabins (plus observation areas, lounges, dining, etc.). The cabins above the midline won't have a view of what's underneath, but perhaps they can have balconies. |

Oooo! //autohornulative// Yumm. (Pity about "looked on
with askance.") |

can an airship that large land/dock? what about wind. If it does not land how does it take on fuel and supplies? |
|
|
[WcW] //If it does not land how does it take on fuel and
supplies?// Lightering. |
|
|
//"looked on with askance"// More of a reverse-Barnum maneuver using a non-real (yet) word and a real destination... though at second-glance there are more regretful possible definitions. |
