A 10 base time system

My idea is to make time based off of 100 units in a day

My idea would divide the 24 hour day into 100 centidays 10 decidays etc. , and have 10 day weeks. this would make the year into 36.5 weeks. The last 5 day week would be 5 days on regular years and 6 days on leap years. this 5 day period would be a 5 day of rest at the end of the year for new year celebrations, and on leap years it would be 6 days. This 36 weeks would be divded into 6 months or 12, 3 week months, the whole lunar calendar makes no sense so why try to make our months be based off of it? This is why we would use this calendar, this would be very simple to calculate time and when what is, it would also be consistant every year with the exception of leap years.

Another thing that would be needed to be changed is the measurement of speed, Miles/hour would be miles/centiday or KM/centiday

Call me an old stick in the mud, but I like the way the calender works at the moment.

Personally, I hate our calendar system, but I think I'd opt for the 4-weeks per month cycle instead.

This is partially baked in the form of the swatch beat (see link).

we have the time based on 60 because 60 is divisble by more numbers than 100. didn't you know that?
DesertFox, May 29 2004

Really? And here I'd always thought that any number was divisible by any other number.

as a demonstration of why ideas like this suck my GCSE maths teacher made us work in radians for a while.
is there any way of leaving rotting fish on the bones?

I think UPS works on metric time (seriously). At least instead of minutes and seconds they use metrics.

P.S. //Really? And here I'd always thought that any number was divisible by any other number.// Go ahead and divide 60 by, oh, say... zero? :)
GutPunchLullabies, Jul 26 2004

I've a mind to go ahead and post an idea about separating the year into 100 days for easier record keeping, but I have decided that parodies belong in the annos,(particularly the annum) and not in the ideas.

God said seven days so seven days it is for me [-]
tasman, Jul 26 2004

But don't forget that to God, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Maybe we misunderstood him. I think we should switch to a seven thousand year long week. Lucky would the generations be that lived during the thousand year long sabath... Cursed are those who live through a thousand year long Monday

The 10 day week idea gets an instant fishbone, because you just reduced my weekends by around 30%. I dont care if you give me 5 days off at the end of the year - I'm still getting robbed - 52 weekends v/s 36 - thats 16*2 = 32 weekend days less. And in return we get 5 days at the end of the year? Do the math. And who wants to wait 8 days till the weekend?
It might make sense if you have 3 day weekends, but its still too many workdays without a weekend. And what would you call the days?
Oneday, Twoday, Threeday.........
I'm sorry - this is just a bad idea all round. Get yourself a calendar.

the french tried metric time, based on ten, during their first revolution. it made things needlessly complicated.
schematics, Jul 26 2004

10 may match our fingers but is a bugger of a number. Divide by 2 is easy but after that, no hope.

12 is excellent - divide by 2, 3, 4, 6 it works. Divide by 5 is not so good but then that is why we have 60 seconds/ minutes to allow us to have a 5 division.

It also means our mental arithmetic is strong and not namby-pamby.
timbeau, Jul 27 2004

I'm tempted to post a eugenics idea to encourage the birth of polydactile kids. Eventually all humans could have twelve fingers and thus render metric obsolete.

baked. as seen in the journal of irreproducible results in the 1970's--multiple articles.
